WHO ARE THESE CLASSES FOR?
Students are at all levels of the profession from complete beginners to seasoned designers. Although it is sometimes difficult for professional designers to accept instruction, they are always grateful in the end to have done so. Beginners are very welcome and treated with the respect and consideration everyone deserves. The only requisite is that you deeply want to pursue the art of landscape design and garden creation and feel that you can, or that you are keenly interested in developing your landscape design plan with our assistance.
WHEN?
These classes are available only by appointment. Please contact me with the dates that you are considering. The courses do fill up and I do get busy so please inquire as to availability.
WHERE?
Classes are held in the GARDENS studio in Cambridge, New York, one hour north of Albany, NY, thirty minutes west of Bennington, VT, forty five minutes east of Saratoga Springs, NY., about three hours north of New York City and west of Boston. Accommodations are at a beautiful, near-by B&B. (Cambridge is one of the most beautiful areas in America, with rolling farmlands, beautiful rivers and simply gorgeous countryside. It is a small town, very friendly with a wealth of natural resources and talent. It hosts numerous live productions and world class concerts at the local theater, Hubard Hall.)
HOW DO THE CLASSES WORK?
I work with one or two students at a time, focusing on your individual needs and wants. I encourage students to bring photos and dimensions for projects of their own which are incorporated into the course. I also supply real-life design projects from among my clients, selecting those that present particularly interesting or salient design challenges.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
I teach what I have discovered to be the most effective approach to creating superior designs suited to the site and the clients. This involves both accepted as well as lesser known design principles and practices which can be applied to all designs and which help initiate and guide the design process.
The teaching also addresses the inner work - the mental and emotional orientation that is vital to successful designs. This is one of the most important aspect of the design process, neglected in nearly all other schools of design.
You will learn how to develop creative, original and suitable designs and the principles of design that apply to all projects as well as principles for dealing with particular challenges. You will gain the ability to take on any project, find the beauty hiding within any property and develop and present unique and timeless designs professionally rendered.
WHAT IS THE COST?
A five day course, including accommodations at a beautiful B&B for six nights costs $3,350. More or fewer days can be arranged and priced accordingly. The cost for a couple sharing a room and both taking the course is $3,800 total for both for the 5 day course and six nights at a B&B.
You are also entitled and encouraged to consult with me on as many as three projects at no additional cost by e-mail, phone or mail after the course is over. This is a very important part of this program. In these follow-up, or course-continuation sessions you will refine your design skills as you bring them to bear on your own projects, with my assistance.
All materials, tools and supplies are provided. It is my promise that you will return home with several completed landscape designs that would have cost many times more than the price of this course, and you will have learned how to create winning designs yourself.
